My step father is dying of lung cancer at what seems to be a very young age. He is in his late 50's. His wish right now is to locate a man named David W. Woods that he was friends with as a young boy and eventually joined the Army with. We don't have much to go on except that he would also be in his 50's, would have grown up in the Bath, Maine area and at one time lived in the Bath Childrens Home with his 2 sisters. My step fathers name is Otis William Sprague some times called Ira. He was in the Army for a little while and has since been living in Phippburg Maine. There are a bunch of us looking for this man but not finding much. Time is of the essence because Otis is not doing well as of this writing. I do not know much about Lt. Col. Joseph F. Rampke except that he received the Yun Hui Medal with Ribbon from China in 1946. I have no official documentation that states why Col. Rampke earned the medal except for a hand written note which I quote "Presented to Lt. Col. Rampke by Gen. Chang Kai Check in gratitude for services in rescuing French and Belguim Missionaries who were prisoners of war in Burma". I do know that Lt. Col. Rampke is from NY or joined the Army in NY. U.S.Navy Vets with Air Squadron VX-4, VW-2 in 1951-53 and VR-1 Hi! I'm looking for someone who was stationed at Patuxent River NAS in the above Squadron VX-4 that went overseas in 1952 with me. I need this information so I can join our local VFW. It seems that my DD-214 form only has "THE NATIONAL DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL" listed and the VFW needs more information than this. I believe VX-4 became VW-2 sometime later in 1953. I also was transfered to Squadron VR-1 in 1953 and went overseas for a few months with this Squadron...can anyone help me?
