width saver, Do you have a lot of files that are
the same throughout most of the file. The top
half has different information and say the bottom
has the same? If so the footer is your answer. It
is also the easiest script to set up. All you
need to know is where Perl is and where a text
file with the HTML you want on the bottom of each
page has been located. This script should go in
the directory of the files that are using it as
well as the text file with the HTML. Change the
file permissions with your ftp program, WS-FTP
does a great job if you server allows this to be
done or by TELNET to 755 and that's it. Paste
about a 20 letter sequence of code (shown on the
script) where you want the HTML and basically you
are done. Full instructions are with the zip
file. This requires Server Side Includes being
allowed on your server. On most systems all files
must end with the extension "SHTML." |

- the way to send email
forms and other documents automatically via email
over the Internet or an Intranet. This is the
Formmail made by Matt Wright. It has been
modified by an unknown author and works a bit
better. Tons of options. Can also write to a
simple csv database file rather than sending you
email when the form is completed or both. Make
your own forms using any editor or wysiwyg
editor, add two to three kinds of code and you
are in business. You need to know of course where
Perl is (Perl 5) and where sundial is. Other than
that it's pretty much hassle free. Just install
it and your forms. A sample HTML form is included
and for most web sites fills the bill. |

| Autoresponder strange as it may seem many web
hosting companies don't provide clients with
autoresponders or if they do charge a large
amount for them. So you are forced to use a email
client like Eudora to "fake it. Now do it in
real time. This version reads the email headers
and responds to different input that you direct.
It can send different messages for different
addresses or subject lines. Or you can set it up
like the UNIX vacation and respond to all mail.
This is a real full featured autoresponder. It
has actually more options than you get with ISP
provided autoresponders. Usually they are just a
simple add on that responds to all or just one
address. Once set up from the administration page
there is no limit to what you can do. If you have
a lot of POP accounts or unlimited aliasing you
can answer all differently or selectively. |

Logger keep track
of your errors and show your own personalized
error page. You may think your site is in pretty
good shape but this will give you the lowdown on
what really is going on. The first time I used it
I was amazed at all the little simple errors that
got revealed (over 300 in a four hour period).
All logged with the page, what happened and what
was the guests IP number they were coming from.
Also allow you complete control over your error
pages even if your host has your normal ones
hidden from you. It will also send you email
every time there is an error (I also got 300
emails:-) or you can turn that off. |

Password Protection very easy and really not that
much protection. All it does is keep the honest
people honest but then that's about all the best
security system in the world can do. If you have
a site or directory you want to keep closed
except to those you authorize this is it. It is
simple to install and you make no changes to your
htaccess file. Something only a advanced student
of UNIX should touch. Same password for every one
but can be changed easily. Still better than
single password Java offerings. |

Well this is one of those. Easily administered.
Sets up a data base of addresses for an email
list. Send your letter when activated telling the
guests friend how much he is enjoying the site. A
great traffic builder. You must have sendmail
installed on the server. Sometimes and easy
